Top Tips for Artwork Installation

Avoid hanging artwork in direct sunlight. Ultra Violet light rays can damage artwork and also cause glaring reflections which disrupt the visual appearance of the work. Do not hang artwork over direct heat sources such as radiators and electric heaters. Fluctuations in heat can cause long-term damage to an artwork which can lead to costly restoration treatments!

Avoid installing artwork in damp areas such as bathrooms, spaces with poor ventilation and steamy kitchen areas. Moisture and humidity can damage artwork significantly over time, potentially ruining pieces of financial, cultural or personal value.

Don’t be tempted to overcrowd spaces with large-scale dramatic pieces that will compete for attention. The artworks should be positioned to complement both one another and the overall mood of the room.

Consider the colour scheme of your space carefully before selecting which room to hang your artwork in. The materials and colours in your fine art and framing can have a dramatic impact upon an interior design. Are you looking to create harmony or stark contrast?

Consider the layout of a group of artworks carefully before hanging. When hanging a group of different works of different sizes in one space, ensure their centres are all at the same height from the floor.Do not worry too much about matching the frames, let the artwork itself lead the design and atmosphere of the room.
